You are always an ambassador of yourself and any organization or brand that you represent. To make the most of every opportunity one must be well prepared. Here are three simple tips to make every cocktail more fruitful.
- Take the Bare Minimum
When walking in to a networking event or anywhere that you think you might make new and meaningful connections, carry only your business cards and what is an absolute must.
Being laden with big bags or bulky pockets will only weigh you down and the strain will start to show on your face very soon.
- Be Ready to Shake Hands
Keep your right hand clean, dry and empty. Effectively, this is a prompt to carry your bag on your left arm, hold your phone in your left hand as often as possible and make your glass a resident of your left hand. In case there is a toast to be proposed, switch it to the right, but at all other times try to maintain the glass in your left.
- Do Partake in the Finger Food
If finger food is doing its rounds, strategically plan a conversation. Introduce yourself, exchange business cards, dive into a conversation and then indulge. Place your glass on a cocktail table nearby so that you can engage in a dialogue with ease. Before you need to say how do you do to the next person, remove the greasy food crumbs and be well prepared again. Basically, don’t spend a lot of time on the food in one go – eat well, but split it into small helpings so that you can regularly have your right hand free.
Cocktails are usually a great way to mingle and finger food is delicious, so make the most of every opportunity by knowing the smart ways to do it. If you have more cocktail questions, write to us at fullofetiquette@gmail.com.
