Meandering through Malls

It’s true that malls are usually a place where people go to chill, hang out, grab some good munchies and stroll around. Some do have specific lists and purposes as they move from store to store to buy what they need, but even with them malls are casual and relaxed spaces.
Having said that, being in a mall does not grant us the rights to meander aimlessly and drift away to the celestial worlds.

Here are some pointers on what to be mindful of at the mall:

01.Are people able to gain access to the entrance/ exit if you stand where you are? – Move, if not.
02.Are you moving too slow down the corridor/ aisle? – Buck up, if so.
03.Are you distracted by your phone and unaware of your surroundings? – Get off the phone and move to an area where you will not be a nuisance.
04.Does it make sense to move to a corner and do what you are doing? – The middle of the corridor is not an option.
05.Can you move your bags to a side so that people can pass by without a problem? – Move them under your chair or between your feet, if that helps.
06.Are you so loud that other people are getting distracted? – Speak in a more suitable tone.
07.Can others pass you on the escalator if they wish to? – Get to a side and keep one lane free.
08.Are your kids creating turmoil and disturbing other shoppers? – Take them to the play area and quieten them down.
09.Are you spilling crumbs or your drink as you walk along? – Stop somewhere, finish up or wait till you can sit down.
10.Are you standing in one place and looking around to spot a person or a shop? – Call them and find out, use the mall directory and get directions

Remember, etiquette is always about you being a better and more thoughtful person in society, It is about collectively doing unto others what we would want them to do unto us. It starts with ourselves and by spreading the word about what we talk about on Full of Etiquette.
